Miami, FL, USA – We used to seeing sandcastles during the day but rarely at night. On a walk along South Miami beach one night we came across what from the distance looked like a small fire. When we approached we saw this sandcastle dramatically lit by small candles embedded in the sand. Captured with a Kodak 6490 using a 28mm lens.
Lake Simcoe, ON, Canada – Sometimes creativity sparks when there is little to work with. Aside from the camera, there were only the glowing ambers of cigarettes and a small candle on the table. I decided to capture a long exposure of this conversation in the dark using only these items. Captured with a Canon 20D using an 18-55mm lens.
Oakville, ON, Canada – If the camera is the canvas and light is colour then fire is my favourite brush. Unlike man-made lights, fire is never the same, it’s always changing and never still. This match’s wavering flame paints motion onto an otherwise static frame in the shape of my first initial. Captured with a Canon 20D using a 17-40mm lens.
